Commercial log buildings range from large resorts to collections of small cabins, specialty buildings to offices. For any area that is rustic, out of the city, or in the mountains, many business owners choose this style of construction.
Log homes are more expensive to build, but from our experience they appraise for more, last longer, and appreciate better than standard construction. If you have ever visited Big Sky, Montana or Jackson, Wyoming then you would know that just about evey building lends itself to the rustic side. In downtown Jackson one of the attractions is several antler archways. An elk preserve winter range is located just outside of the town. If you drive down the highway towards the Grand Teton National Park you can see high chain link fence and benches. This is the elk winter area. As the horns shed they are collected and used for things such as these antler archways.
A diverseness in log construction can be found in both of these towns. In Jackson, Wyoming the Hillside building is covered in handcrafted log siding. This is a 4×12 inch product with a hand peeled surface. Hand made log railing also lines the balconies and walkways of this tall structure. This gives it a handcrafted log home appearance while only requiring siding.
Motels are also made from stacked logs. In West Yellowstone, Montana several of the motels are made from machine cut logs. One unit we stayed in had four sides of solid logs, meaning that the interior dividing walls between the rooms were also solid log.
Outside of Ennis, MT is another variety of log. The El Western uses separate log cabins for each one of their rental units. A larger lodge building sits in the middle of the half circle driveway and serves as a visitor’s center.
So anytime you visit a mountain or rustic retreat take a minute to observe the commercial log buildings‘ architecture which helps lend to the feel and charm of the area, instead of taking away from it.
